BLACK GIRLS RUN: San Antonio

Black Girls Run: Yes we do!

"You want me to run where?" That was the first thing that came out of my mouth when asked by one of the San Antonio Ambassadors, Tiffany Simmons to join Black Girls Run. I had heard of it, I knew it was started by two black women and that it was created in an attempt to bring light to fitness, or lack of in the black female community. Once added to the group I was introduced to Amaris Kelly the other San Antonio Ambassador. Amaris had just moved from Atlanta where she was apart of their BGR group. Upon arriving and realizing there was no group in San Antonio she worked with Toni Carey and Ashley Hicks the founders of Black Girls Run and started a group here.

Every Saturday we get together and run, rain or shine! It's been a long road but in just a few months we've grown from just a few runners to 143 members! We've participated in some of the biggest marathons and will continue to spread Toni and Ashley's message of the importance of health in our community. BGR isn't just a group it's a family of women who support each other through each step and are dedicated to being healthier.
